On Friday, September 12, the Saints’ Varsity Football team took on Bullis High School in their first home game of the season, walking away with a 17-0 victory to keep their perfect record and advance to a 3-0 record.
Barring turnover issues, the Saints looked efficient on offense. QB Chase Roberts ‘26 accounted for 172 total yards and 2 touchdowns on offense, completing 8 passes on 18 attempts for 107 yards and a touchdown, plus 65 more on the ground after 11 rushes. He did throw 2 interceptions, however; both came on tipped passes. WR JJ Tidwell ‘27 was his leading receiver, catching for 83 yards and finding the endzone on a 32 yard passing play. Roberts’ other touchdown came on an 8 yard rush in the 4th quarter.
The run game looked dominant, with RB Aiden White ‘27 rushing for a net gain of 172 yards on 18 attempts, averaging a stellar 9.6 yards per carry. The offensive line, led by guard Darius Gray ‘26 and center Walter Cart ‘26, was in control not only on run blocking but also in pass blocking, not allowing any sacks and only letting up 2 tackles for loss to Bullis’ defense.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Saints continue to set the bar high, not allowing Bullis to score any points. The defensive line recorded 2 sacks and 5 TFLs as a team, with Gray and DT Lance Clelland ‘27 both getting one sack each. Bullis only racked up a total of 105 rushing yards on 30 attempts, averaging just 2.4 yards per carry.
The secondary played just as well, only allowing 6 completions and 66 yards on 23 pass attempts. DBs Finn Walter ‘26 and Collin Johnson ‘26 both got interceptions, with Walter getting an extra 31 yards on the return. LB Elijah Brandon ‘26 and DB Austin Robinson ‘27 both broke up one pass each, with DB Elisha Asare ‘26 stopping two of his own and Gray recording another 3 breakups from the line.
For their next matchup, the Saints will travel to Norfolk Academy for yet another away game on Friday, September 19 at 6:30pm, where they will hope to stay undefeated.
