Specialty sessions offer opportunities in many different subjects and grade levels. Each session is designed to enhance learning in a fun environment. After all, it’s summer! 
All camps are Co-ed!

    Ever wonder how a building is designed or how a tree house fits in a tree? Learn how to design your own building by drawing 2D-floor plans and bring your creation to life through a one-point perspective drawing and 3D models. We will look at famous buildings, structures, and architects from RVA to the world! At the end of the week, your architect will have their own amazing portfolio. All materials are provided.

  • Driver’s Education 

    Driver’s Education

    Instructors will guide soon-to-be drivers through the classroom portion of driver’s education for four days in June. The class will include the Virginia Department of Education certified 11-module driver’s education curriculum. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The seven required behind-the-wheel sessions can be scheduled after the students complete the classroom course. (Behind-the-wheel scheduling and payment will be coordinated with RVA Driving Academy.) *Lunch for the week in the Ryan Dining Hall is an additional $25 fee offered during the registration process.

    Let’s dive in!  We will explore all there is to know about our favorite ocean animals!  Throughout the week, we will create different ocean animals using a variety of mediums!  We will investigate the differences between saltwater and freshwater, what seashells do in vinegar, and what ocean waves look like in a bottle!  We will create our own edible fish sensory bins as a fun discovery activity and a tasty snack!  Lastly, we will create sand and sea sensory bags and build a coral reef using Play-Doh!  A week of discovering much more than “thing-a-ma-bobs” and “whatchamacallits”!

    Digging for Fun Archaeology Camp

    Beyond the pages of history, our past can also be discovered by examining the things people have left behind. During our week of exploration and examination in archaeology camp, we will get our hands dirty identifying objects ranging from 80 to 8,000 years old. After carefully handling actual spear points, we will attempt to manufacture our own stone tools using ancient techniques. From studying soils and excavating, to manufacturing and using ancient weapons, we will learn about the past with our hands and our minds. Like Indiana Jones, along with your Fedora hat and bullwhip, bring your curiosity and good energy as you spend a week training in the techniques and methodologies of an archaeologist.

In this imaginative, hands-on camp, we’ll read picture books and then recreate parts of the story using sensory materials like slime, fake snow, pasta, oobleck, and more. Campers will explore key elements of storytelling, characters, setting, and plot; while building, creating, and experimenting. It’s the perfect blend of literacy, creativity, and sensory play, designed to spark imagination and deepen understanding through interactive fun.

    Pack your bags (and your taste buds) for an exciting adventure! In this fun-filled summer camp, students will take a journey “around the world” to explore different cultures, languages, and traditions. Each day, campers will discover a new country through hands-on activities—learning simple words and phrases, creating art projects, and playing traditional games and dances. Best of all, campers will visit local restaurants to taste authentic cuisine from around the world, adding real flavor to their cultural journey.
    By the end of the week, campers will not only expand their world knowledge but also build appreciation for the richness and diversity of our global community—one bite (and one adventure) at a time! (Supply fee $40 for tasting samples from local restaurants.)

    Instructors will guide soon-to-be drivers through the classroom portion of driver’s education. The class will include the Virginia Department of Education certified 11-module driver’s education curriculum. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The seven required behind-the-wheel sessions can be scheduled after the students complete the classroom course. (Behind-the-wheel scheduling and payment will be coordinated with RVA Driving Academy.)
