Baseball falls in nine

Bishop O'Connell rallies late.
The varsity baseball team gave a valiant effort but fell 4-3 to Bishop O'Connell in the VISAA State quarterfinals Tuesday, May 12.

The Saints, seeded sixth, took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the No. 3 Knights rallied to tie the game with two outs, eventual winning in nine innings.

Jaerron Johnson '27 had a strong day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. Toney Smith '28 and Addley Gladden '28 also had RBI doubles. Austen Wrinkle '26 added an RBI.

On the mound, Christian Gray '26 and Palmer Berry '28 both pitched four innings striking out four batters. Each had a hit of their own at the plate.

The Saints lose three seniors to graduation, but have a boatload of returners that should lead to a successful 2027 campaign.
