On Friday, October 17, the Saints played a home game against their Prep-League rival Trinity Titans, coming away with an important 13-7 win.
The biggest story of the game was the Saints’ defense, which, outside of an 80-yard Trinity rushing touchdown to end the first half, consistently came up when it mattered with big stops and takeaways, including 3 fourth down stops and 3 interceptions.
LB Elijah Brandon ‘26 had 2 of those interceptions for 58 total return yards, including a 25-yard pick-6 for the Saints’ only touchdown of the night. He now has 5 interceptions on the season, 3 of which he has returned for touchdowns. The other interception came from DB Finn Walter ‘26, who took it out of the air for a clutch pick in the end zone.
Along with the 3 takeaways, the secondary only allowed 6 completions on 13 attempts from the opposing quarterback for 62 total passing yards, most notably shutting down opposing WR Davion Brown ‘26, a four-star recruit, in the passing game.
The pass rush also came up big, getting consistent pressure and 6 sacks as a team. OL/DL Darius Gray ‘26 had 3 of the 6, with DL Lance Clelland ‘27 and LB Bowan Ireland ‘27 getting one each. Defensive linemen Charlie Parker ‘27 and Drew Pendlebury ‘26 also shared one. Outside the 80-yard rushing touchdown at the end of the first half, the defensive line also only allowed 101 rushing yards on 30 carries.
The offense did not create too many explosive plays, but did create long, sustained drives that kept Trinity’s offense off the field, including a 16-play, 8-minute drive in the second half that ended in a field goal.
None of the Saints’ offensive drives ended in a touchdown, however, K William Sterling ‘27 did put 2 successful field goal attempts through the uprights for 6 total points, which, with the defense only allowing 7 points from Trinity, was enough for the victory.
For their next matchup, the Saints will have another home game at Knowles Field, where they will face off against the 6-2 North Cross Raiders. There are two shared matches between the two teams; both teams lost to Benedictine, but unlike the Saints, North Cross came up short against Trinity.
The game will be played on Saturday, October 25 at 2:30pm, which is Senior Day.
