On Saturday, September 6, the Saints’ Varsity Football team traveled north to Episcopal High School for their second match of the season. They walked away with a 30-19 victory, defeating the Maroon and advancing to 2-0 on the season.
The first half was particularly productive for the Saints, as they put 13 points on the board in the first quarter and 10 in the second. RB Aiden White ‘27, who ran the ball 11 times for 103 yards and an impressive 9.4 yards per carry, started the scoring with a 14-yard run into the end zone after the Saints special teams gave them good field position.
QB Chase Roberts ‘26 also had two passing touchdowns, one on a pitch to WR Jaerron Johnson ‘27 that went 6 yards, and the other on an impressive 11 -ard connection with Senior TE Nate Roberts, who made a good catch despite close coverage by Episcopal defenders. Kicker William Sterling ‘27 also got 3 points for the Saints on a 38-yard field goal. Along with a pick-six from LB Elijah Brandon ‘26, the Saints scored 30 consecutive unanswered points.
Including his two TD passes, Roberts had 11 completions on 21 pass attempts for 111 passing yards, including a 35-yard connection with JJ Tidwell ‘27, who led the team in receiving with 51 yards on 3 catches.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Saints were excellent. As mentioned, Brandon had a 50 yard pick-six, his second of the season, as well as 2 pass breakups. The defensive line was lights out; the Maroon’s rushing attack had a net -17 yards on the ground.
The team’s next matchup will be its first game played at home on Knowles Field, where they will take on Bullis School, who will travel from Maryland with a 1-1 record.
