State Champs

by Philip White '26
On a cold November night (Monday, Nov. 10), the Saints faced off against Potomac in the VISAA State Championship. After a hard fought 80 minutes, the Saints came away victorious with a 1-0 win over the Panthers.

Coming off one of the best comebacks in Saints Varsity Soccer history against River Road rival Collegiate, the Saints were riding high and ready to take on the Potomac Panthers in the VISAA State Championship.

It was an extremely defensive game with starting goalie Collin Weis '27 making multiple impressive saves to keep the Panthers scoreless for the entire game. On offense, the Saints met their match with Potomac's tough defense, but after 76 minutes of play, Cole Butler '26 was able to hit the back of the net.

This win propelled the program to its 6th VISAA State Championship and brought their final record to 18-2-2 on the season.

"Hats off to Potomac School for another great run in the State Tournament; they were a terrific opponent," Saints head coach Jay Wood said. "While the ‘tangibles’ of winning the tournament are fulfilling, the greater gifts we’ve received include our learning the importance of committing to something greater than our individual selves and our committing to the process of working hard, over time, to achieve success."
