Adam Ball shot a 79 in his local qualifying round at Pinehurst, N.C.
Though his round was certainly impressive for someone in high school and who is not a professional, his score did not qualify him for the sectional round in Maryland.

Adam Ball '13 seems to make history every time he walks on a golf course.
Now he's stepping onto an entirely different level.
The VCU-bound junior will start his bid for the PGA Tour's U.S. Open Monday at a local qualifier in Pinehurst, N.C.
If Ball can pull off a top-five finish after the 18-hole round, it's on to a sectional in Maryland for 36 holes of golf.
Only the top one or two players in that tournament will be picked for the Open, Ball estimates. But the reigning state VISAA player of the year is still confident.
"It's definitely a long shot," Ball said. "But if I play the way I know I can I definitely have a possibility of making it. It's going to be tough but I like my chances."
Regardless, what an opportunity this is for the Saint.
"It'll definitely show me where I need to go. There's really nothing bad that can come out of this. It's going to be a good experience."
