Inspired by the viral 2014 “Ice Bucket Challenge” and having lost friends to suicide, Jefferson saw an opportunity to raise money and awareness around mental health challenges. In March 2024, the USC MIND club launched a “SpeakYourMind” ice bucket challenge that surpassed $500,000 in donations and attracted participation from high-profile figures as well as many members of the Saints Community. Wade hopes that the challenge leaves a lasting legacy around the country by encouraging students to found their own MIND chapters and continue the organization’s mission of promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention long after the ice water stops falling.
