Arguably St. Christopher’s most well-known alumnus, Tom Wolfe ’47 is considered one of the greatest American writers.
Wolfe was to truth-telling and intellectual rigor, always holding himself to the highest ethical standards in his craft. His dedication to excellence, coupled with his distinctive voice and fearless pursuit of ideas, set an example of personal honor and professional integrity, making him an ideal candidate for the Distinguished Alumni Achievement award. Beyond his literary achievements, Wolfe brought together alumni for many years through his annual Gotham Dogwood and Pine Needle Party in New York City, and frequently visited St. Christopher’s for speaking engagements with students and faculty. Through his discipline, courage, and commitment to using his talents for the benefit of others, Wolfe has lived out the ideals of St. Christopher’s mission.
