Specialty sessions offer opportunities in many different subjects and grade levels. Each session is designed to enhance learning in a fun environment. After all, it’s summer! 
All camps are Co-ed!

  • Around the World Camp

    Rising 1st - 3rd graders

    With custom passports in hand, during Around the World Camp we will experience a whirlwind journey of five different countries and cultures! Each day campers will get their passports stamped as we 'travel' to a different country, where we will spend time hearing stories, playing games, learning basic words, and making crafts centered around how people live in each new place.

  • ArtHaus Art Camp Colorama

    This week is always one of our most popular and always fills fast. Be sure to register early! It’s always different because color is truly infinite! We will be inspired by the greatest artistic explorers of color and light: Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Bisa Butler, and more! Our paintings, clay, and sculptures will be an explosion of warm and cool colors. Picasso’s faces will put us on track for an abstract sculpture that will be an all-time favorite keeper! Don’t miss this week of visual expression through rose-colored glasses!

  • Brilliant Builders

    Rising 1st - 3rd Grade

    Campers will use awesome technology tools such as: LEGO®, Makey Makeys, Ozobots, Little Bits, Dash robots, and/or LEGO® Spike Prime Robotics to examine the design process in order to solve real-world problems. This camp explores a unique combination of great challenges and fun for all budding engineers!

  • Busch Gardens Fun

    Join us for the thrill of a 5 day Busch Gardens adventure. Including rides, shows, attractions, and a kids area. Busch Gardens camp has amazing fun for everyone. The trip will include transportation to and from the park and lunch. Campers will be responsible for their own admission pass for all 5 days of the camp. A season pass starts as low as $118!

  • Digging for Fun Archaeology Camp

    Rising 4th - 7th Grade

    Beyond the pages of history, our past can also be discovered by examining the things people have left behind.  During our week of exploration and examination in archaeology camp, we will get our hands dirty identifying objects ranging from 80 to 8,000 years old.  After carefully handling actual spear points, we will attempt to manufacture our own stone tools using ancient techniques.  From studying soils and excavating, to manufacturing and using ancient weapons, we will learn about the past with our hands and our minds.  Like Indiana Jones, along with your Fedora hat and bullwhip, bring your curiosity and good energy as you spend a week training in the techniques and methodologies of an archaeologist.

    Do you LOVE dinosaurs? Join me on a paleontology adventure where we will be learning all about dinosaurs! It is going to be an adventure to the Mesozoic Era that is DINO-MITE! This week we will do a dino dig and then hatch fizzy dino eggs! We will also learn about fossils with playdoh! Throughout our week we will craft paper plate dinosaurs and shape dinosaurs! Lastly, we will make dinosaurs and volcanoes using yummy snacks! There will be no time for dino-snores.

  • Driver's Education

    Instructors will guide soon-to-be drivers through the classroom portion of driver’s education for five days in June. The class will include the Virginia Department of Education certified 11-module driver’s education curriculum. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The seven required behind-the-wheel sessions can be scheduled after the students complete the classroom course. (Behind-the-wheel scheduling and payment will be coordinated with RVA Driving Academy.)
    *Lunch for the week in the Ryan Dining Hall is an additional $25 fee offered during the registration process.

Designed for those who are new to music, students will experiment with various instruments, and experience various music styles. In-class use of piano, guitar, ukulele, and percussion are included in this camp.  Learn basic music theory, ear training and rhythm while finding your musical voice! Parents can visit on the final day of camp for simple demos. (No experience necessary).

    This Mixed Media camp is a collage of artistic experiences rooted in one fundamental creative principle – to provide children with the foundation that will inform and inspire their vision and imagination. We will explore line, shape, color, texture, and pattern through creative 2D and 3D works of art. We will create and explore drawing and painting techniques as well as collage and sculpture in a variety of mediums and styles. This camp is dedicated to providing campers with inventive art instruction and projects that are sure to enhance their creative problem-solving skills. We encourage out-of-the-box visual expression!

    This week will be inspired by the beautiful colors of African and African American art. Campers will look at the beautiful quilts of Bisa Butler, the indigo batiks from West Africa, the collage art of Romare Bearden of Harlem Renaissance, and the unique ceramic art by Syd Carpenter. Each young artist will put their own creative spin on all that they create.This is sure to be an enlightening and colorful creative experience!

  • Be an Architect Art Camp

    Ever wonder how a building is designed or how a tree house fits in a tree? Learn how to design your own building by drawing 2D floor plans and bring your creation to life through a one point perspective drawing and 3D models. We will look at famous buildings, structures and architects from our city of Richmond to all around the world! At the end of the week your architect will have their own amazing portfolio.   • Drawing For Tweens & Teens with ArtHaus

    Rising 5th - 8th Grade

    In this introductory class, you will learn the essential basics of drawing: line, value,
    proportion, the effects of light on geometric forms, the elements of design and
    composition, and color theory. Students will learn to see and accurately draw
    volumes in space—with knowledge of highlight, shadow, zone of tangency, cast
    shadow, and reflected light. Class exercises and still-life set-ups are designed to
    expand your drawing and observational skills. Students will also learn the old
    master method of “sight-size drawing.” We will work with several drawing
    media—graphite, charcoal, sanguine, as well as pastels (semi-hard chalk pastels).
    Students will develop their drawing expertise as they develop their own personal
    style. Each class features instructor demonstrations, individual instruction, and
    group critiques.

    Business Builders is a unique program that invites Middle School-age youth to learn business basics and to spark their entrepreneurial mindset. Offered by Founders Mark, a local organization that invests in youth by preparing them with life-ready and leadership skills for future success. Their mission is to empower bright, talented youth to make a positive impact on the world around them.

    During Four Seasons Camp we will experience a whole year in just one week!     Play like a pro with your peers and become a guitar champ! Campers will learn key concepts of the fundamentals of music, rhythm and performance. Students will also be able to experiment with different types of guitars, electric guitar effects and other gear key to live performance. Other topics covered include listening, accompaniment, music theory and improvisation.
     
    Prerequisite: 2 yrs experience on guitar.

    Come join Ms. Warren for an exciting week where campers will get a chance to express their creativity as they create and develop script scenes, direct their figures, and watch their movie come to life. Campers learn video editing techniques like voice-overs, transitioning and green-screening.     Learn how to layer graphite, color, and ink to create 3D effects in this mixed-media drawing and painting class. We will begin with graphite and ink & learn how to add value and depth to our drawings. Students will learn how to use color effectively to create the illusion of shadow, as well as how to layer and mix color to match the appropriate hue in a variety of drawings and paintings. The technique of printing with gelli plates will be introduced and used in combination with paint and collage materials. This class will make the fundamentals of drawing & painting FUN!

We will finish up the week making delicious shark bait popcorn snacks and sand dollar sugar cookies! This week is going to be JAW-SOME!

    This camp is designed for beginner students who have an interest in joining any beginning band program in the fall.  Students will have an introduction to a band program through the following means - Performance on Recorder or Basic Percussion, Movement & Playing in a Musical Environment, Recognition of Strong and Weak Beats, Musical Symbols & Meanings, Reading Music Notation, Active Listening, Intonation & Tone, Instrument Recognition, Rhythmic Literacy and Ear Training.  Students will be assessed and advised on “best-fit” instruments with which they would likely have the most success.
     
    Prerequisite: None
    GRSM will provide a recorder for in-class use.

In addition, campers will learn and practice mindfulness techniques, tapping into how they are feeling in order to develop important strategies for self regulation. We will also get creative making yoga bracelets and yoga music.

    This camp is designed for students who have an interest in being a part of any intermediate band program in the fall, however, other students satisfying the prerequisites are also welcome.  The camp offers students the opportunity to develop the fundamentals of performance on their instrument and is designed to develop Tone Quality, Technique, Rhythm, Intonation and other skills needed for performing as an individual or in a group.
    Prerequisite:  1-3 years of experience on flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba or band percussion.

    Instructors will guide soon-to-be drivers through the classroom portion of driver’s education. The class will include the Virginia Department of Education certified 11-module driver’s education curriculum. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The seven required behind-the-wheel sessions can be scheduled after the students complete the classroom course. (Behind-the-wheel scheduling and payment will be coordinated with RVA Driving Academy.)
