Taylor is a Michigan man

Football standout chooses Wolverines out of 31 scholarship offers.
St. Christopher's star cornerback Garrett Taylor '15 has committed to Michigan.

The 6-1, 185-pounder narrowed his list to six schools recently and chose the Maize and Blue over Stanford, Tennessee, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and South Carolina, the other five of his final six.

His trip to the Big House a few weeks back "was amazing," and the business school at Michigan was also very appealing.

"It's a great school," Taylor said. "I definitely will have all of the academic support that I need. It's a great school football wise, but they also had the stuff academically that I was looking for."

Taylor is one of the top-ranked cornerbacks in the United States, and is ranked in the top 100 players overall by many publications/ranking sites.

The recruiting aspect was fun, but he's glad it's over.

"It was pretty exciting at first. But then it gets really exhausting from all the interviews ... Taking visits takes a toll on my parents."

"I'm glad it's over so I can focus on the rest of my junior year and then my senior year academically and football wise."

Taylor is a three-year starter at cornerback for StC, and was named first-team all-Metro this season. He routinely matched up man-to-man with some of the best receivers in the area, and performed excellently holding them well under their gaudy averages.

He racked up 47 tackles, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and an interception this season. He also hauled in six touchdown passes for the 6-4 Saints.
