The varsity tennis team dispatch of Collegiate 5-1 Saturday, May 17 to win its sixth straight state VISAA title.
The No. 1 and 2 doubles teams prevailed to take a 2-1 lead into singles. Harrison Willett '25 (8-3) and Cade Collingwood '25 (8-1) won at No. 6 and 5, respectively, before No. 4 Gray Dion '28 clinched the match with his 8-2 win.
"I'm just happy for the boys, it's a long season, a tough season, they have put in a lot of hours on and off the court," coach Pontus Hiort told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "To have that rewarded with a state championship is not something we take for granted."
Five seniors will depart the lineup, including Prep League player of the year Sterling Burke, Bo Barbour and Blake Caldwell. The trio played slot 1 through 3 for the past two years, helping StC dominate.
