Saints fifth at Big Blue Invite

Janis, Cornett finished second and third, respectively.
The varsity wrestling team finished fifth in the Big Blue Invitational at Christiansburg High School this past weekend.

What most private-school wrestling observers were watching for was how the Saints fared and how the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian fared. It was close.

LCA grabbed third, less than 10 points ahead of STC.

Part of their third-place finish came from National Prep All-American Marcus Miller, who edged STC's star Robert Janis '13 3-2 for the 145 title.

The teams will face in a dual meet at St. Chris Feb. 7 in what should feature many matchups to come in the VISAA state meet.

For the Saints, Tyler Cornett '12 grabbed third place after getting knocked out by Cody Allala of Hopewell in the semifinals at 160 pounds.

Quent Alcorn '12 placed fourth at 195, including a hard-fought 1-0 win over LCA's Blake Papet. Marshall Hollerith '13 and William Kelly '14 placed sixth at 220 and 106, respectively.
