Saints 2-1 in quad meet

St. Christopher's turned in a nice weekend at Ocean Lakes HS.
St. Christopher's varsity wrestling team carried momentum from rivalry victories over Collegiate and Benedictine and went 2-1 this past weekend.

The team traveled to Ocean Lakes High School for a quad against the host Dolphins, New Kent and Northampton.

The Saints defeated Northampton 62-9 and New Kent 33-33 on criteria. The Saints scored four falls in the dual meet to the Trojans' three, which was the deciding factor in the criteria to break the tie.

Host Ocean Lakes defeated St. Christopher's 45-28. Despite the blemish, coach John Gordon received encouraging comments.

"Both the Northhampton coach and the Ocean Lakes coach commented on how hard our guys competed and how relentless they were in their attack," Gordon said. "I felt good about that – those sort of references weren’t used to describe the team in November and December."

Undefeated wrestlers for the Saints: Robert Janis (130 - defeated New Kent's state-ranked Austin Fuller 9-2), David Wesley (152, pinned New Kent's state-ranked Devonte Fitzgerald), Trey Tarr (160), and Marshall Hollerith (189 - defeated three state-ranked wrestlers including Ocean Lakes' Marc Behnke).

William Kelly (103), William Cabell (145), Quent Alcorn (171), and Ben Thompson (285) all posted 2-1 records for St. Christopher's.

Next up for the Saints is the Virginia Prep League Tournament at Norfolk Academy on Saturday, February 5th.

Action begins at 11:30 AM as the Saints look for an unprecedented 10th straight Prep League title.
