Baseball on to state final

Saints rally for three runs in sixth inning.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS - The varsity baseball team poured in three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to stop Liberty Christian Academy 3-1 Thursday night at Shepherd Stadium.

The victory moved the Saints into the VISAA state title game versus the Trinity Episcopal-Flint Hill winner Saturday at 5 pm back in Colonial Heights. The TES-FH game takes place Friday.

What wasn't taking place Thursday for the Saints was hitting. StC's powerful lineup was stymied by LCA pitcher Zach Clinton and didn't have much going on when LCA scored its lone run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning.

Co-captain Charlie Yorgen '13 changed that. He led off the sixth and singled on a 3-2 count, his second hit of the contest. Clinton checked on him a few times at first base, and the last of this throws got away, allowing Yorgen to move to second.

Then Yorgen stole third in the most gutsy play you'll ever see, right before Matt Dunlevy '14 blasted a triple to right-center, scoring Yorgen to tie the game at 1.

After getting one out, LCA walked co-captain Jack English '13, looking to force Caleb Setliff '15 into an inning-ending double play.
