Guaranteed at least $2,500 scholarship; one of 10 male finalists.
Quent Alcorn '12 is a finalist for the prestigious 21st annual Times-Dispatch/SportsBackers Scholar-Athlete Award.
Alcorn is one of 10 young men up for the top prize, a $7,500 scholarship. The runner-up receives $4,500 while the other eight finalist earn a not-so-shabby $2,500 to go toward their college education. Also, 10 females will have the same opportunity, including St. Catherine's Amanda Kim, bound for Duke to play lacrosse.
Alcorn, an all-Prep League football performer and two-time state wrestling champion, will attend the University of Virginia in the fall.
The winners will be announced Monday, June 4 at the Scholar-Athlete Dinner at the Jefferson Hotel.
