Wrestling 5th at St. Alban's

Saints continue to impress at tough invitationals.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - At this point, it should be no surprise that the varsity wrestling team is more than holding its own with the nation's best.

This past weekend the Saints grabbed fifth place in the 65th annual St. Alban's Tournament, 58.5 points ahead of current state VISAA #1 ranked Paul VI.

Robert Janis '13 and Tyler Cornett '12 continued their stellar seasons, winning at 145 and 160 pounds, respectively.

Janis hauled in his second straight St. Alban's title, while Cornett took his first, highlighted by a triple-overtime semifinal victory.

Quent Alcorn '12 (195) was third, William Cabell '13 (138) and William Kelly '14 (106) fourth, Marshall Hollerith '13 (220) fifth, Jacob Hale '15 (113) seventh and LCA hero Hunter Daniels '12 (170) eighth.

Starters Matt MacLeod, Ian Saunders and Andy Pitts did not compete, which makes the near fourth-place finish - the Saints were only seven behind Good Counsel of Maryland - even more impressive.

With 11 straight Prep League crowns in the safehouse, STC looks to bring in its 11th straight state title, starting Friday with a two-day event at Hermitage High School.
