We were honored to hear alumnus Rodney Williams '13 speak to the Upper School community on February 13, 2026 at Memorial Chapel. Williams, joined by members of the Black Alumni Network, honored the life and legacy of Walter Lindsey '75, StC's first Black graduate, and shared the inspiration he took from Lindsey's example.

Reflecting on Lindsey's courage as one of the only Black students at his school, Williams asked listeners to "Show up fully, be curious, be disciplined, be compassionate, but most of all be courageous. Because someone somewhere will benefit from what you do today, and Walter Lindsey's life reminds us of that truth," said Williams. "Standing here today, I'm grateful for the path that he helped me create, and I'm honored to be a part of the continuation of that story."

Williams, joined by his kindergarten nephew, Greyson, urged the community to view legacy not only as something defined at the end of one's life, but as something that exists in the present moment. He encouraged everyone to act with thoughtfulness and purpose in their daily actions.

Later, Lindsey's family, friends, and StC alumni, faculty and staff joined Headmaster Mason Lecky at a space near the Historic Corridor dedicated to Lindsey's memory to offer reflections and words of gratitude.
