Varsity Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season With Win Over Trinity
by Edison Pellumbi '25
On Saturday, May 3, varsity baseball ended its regular season with another win at home over Trinity Episcopal to move their record to 19-8 on the year and 8-0 in the league.
The Saints faced a tough arm, but the bottom of their lineup was able to come through in the second as Gibson Beck '28 gave them the opening run with a two-out RBI single. Christian Gray '26 got the ball for the Saints, and he was great for most of his start. He was dominant through four innings, but ran into some trouble after a quick two outs to start the fifth, walking the bases loaded before giving way to Wally Jones '25.
Jones struck out the first batter he saw, keeping the Saints in the lead. Gray's final line was 4.2 innings, an impressive eight strikeouts, only two hits, and no runs. Immediately after, there was a 48-minute lightning delay. Out of the break, the Saints scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Despite Trinity threatening in the final inning, Jones then finished the game off to give StC a 3-1 win.
The Saints do not play the week of the 4th, and will have to wait to see where they are seeded in the state tournament. They jumped up from third to second after their win over top-seeded Miller last week and will likely stay in the second slot going into the tournament.
