Paleontologist Dr. Buck Ward '60 leads the fourth grade on a fossil dig in the Northern Neck.
Dr. Buck Ward ‘60 presented to the fourth grade boys today in preparation for an upcoming fossil dig at Stratford Hall. The boys are excited to search the cliffs at Stratford Hall on the Potomac River for their own fossils and shark teeth. Dr. Ward is an invertebrate paleontologist who identified and named the state fossil of Virginia (Chesapecten jeffersonius) and is Curator Emeritus of Invertebrate Paleontology of the Virginia Museum of Natural History. Dr. Ward’s father was a French teacher at St. Christopher’s from 1946-1972 and he grew up on campus.
