Wrestling goes 1-2 at Virginia Duals

Janis '13 and Prata '16 go unbeaten.
HAMPTON - The varsity wrestling team went 1-2 at the competitive Virginia Duals this past weekend at the Hampton Coliseum.

The Saints topped Smithfield (VA) 48-19, and fell to nationally-ranked Camden Catholic (NJ) 49-13 and Bethlehem Freedom (PA) 42-22.

In the Smithfield win, nine wrestlers earned wins, including Robert Janis '13 and Joey Prata '16, who notched victories in each dual. Janis, headed to Maryland, halted a future Virginia Cavalier in the Camden match.

"Janis is emerging as a guy who wrestles big against top-notch opponents," a pleased coach John Gordon said.

William Kelly '14 and Jacob Hale '15 won two of their three matches.

"The guys competed hard all event long," Gordon said, "and responded well to the big stage."

Another big stage is ahead this weekend as the Saints travel to Christiansburg, VA for the Big Blue Tournament Friday and Saturday.
