Saints drop No. 4 Vikings

StC advances to Times-Dispatch Invitational semis.
The varsity basketball put together its best effort of the season, dominating Thomas Jefferson 67-38 Thursday at Deep Run High School in the first round of the Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament.

The Saints will face Benedictine, ranked first in the T-D Top 10, Friday at 6 pm at Randolph-Macon College for a bid to Saturday's championship at VCU's Siegel Center. No. 2 Henrico will face No. 3 John Marshall in the other semifinal following the Saints.

StC beat No. 4 Thomas Jefferson in every quarter, including a 22-10 second period that put the Saints in control. The guys knocked in seven 3-pointers in the first half alone, including four from Giles Thompson '14 (14 points) and two from Nick Sherod '16 (14 points).

The final margin of 29 points was reached a few times late in the contest as every StC player saw action and 10 players scored.

Drexel signee Rodney Williams '13 had a huge night with 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Sherod also added eight rebounds, and Porter Reinhart grabbed seven off the glass as StC outrebounded TJ 52-23. Findley Bowie '14 poured in eight big points off the bench, including two 3-pointers.

St. Catherine's won its first round game 54-43 over Deep Run and will face Highland Springs at 3 pm at R-MC. The girls finished second in the TDIT last season.
