Wrestling second in Hopewell tourney

Best finish the Saints have had in this tourney
The varsity wrestling team got the season started off on a great note, finishing second out of 17 teams in the tough Hopewell Invitational this weekend.

The Saints had 12 place winners, including four wrestlers finishing second: Joey Prata '16 (106), William Kelly '14 (113), Marshall Hollerith '13 (220) and Tyler Anthony '14 (285). Ian Saunders '14 (170) finished third, Carrington Lanier '15 (182) fourth and Jacob Hale '15 (126) sixth.

Six wrestlers placed seventh: Matt MacLeod '14 (120), Hunter Wigginton '15 (145), William Cabell '13 (152), Mark Gottwald '14 (160) and Charles Moore '14 (195). The impressive performance was without Maryland signee Robert Janis '13, who is still recovering from an injury.

"Plenty of work to do but we are very happy with the depth of point scorers in this competitive event," coach John Gordon said. "Every boy contributed to a solid team finish in this event."

The Saints have the Asics Ironman Tournament in Ohio and the St. Christopher's Invitational next weekend.
