Jermaine Johnson nailed a jumper with 1.5 seconds left to lift the Saints.
CHARLOTTESVILLE - Another game, another hero.
Six days after Patrick Martin knocked in a game-winning shot near the buzzer, Jermaine Johnson repeated his teammate's heroics in similar fashion.
With the game knotted at 60, Johnson darted off a huge screen from Rodney Williams, faked his defender and hit a turnaround jumper with 1.5 seconds left as St. Christopher's dropped homestanding St. Anne's-Belfield 62-60 in Prep League action Friday night.
It was Johnson's 18th point of the night, and his 11th in a stellar fourth period.
The aforementioned Martin threw in a career-high 19 points, including the Saints' first 10 points as the senior captain was unconscious.
He dropped in three 3-pointers on the evening as he continues his great play.
The contest was a seesaw battle that saw neither team take a commanding lead.
St. Christopher's had all sorts of problems containing Kodie Critzer (19 points, 16 in first half) and big man Jordan Davis (game-high 23 points, 10 in fourth period), but its offense ran well enough to hold the lead for the majority of the game, though slim.
STAB defeated StC 62-51 in early January, as the Saints lost two Prep League games in a row.
Now St. Chris boasts and 6-2 record in the league and is firmly in control of second place behind Christchurch, with everyone else having at least four losses in league play.
Rob Vozenilek dropped in 15 points for the Saints, who played the majority of the game without an ill Williams. But the sophomore sucked it up late and helped Johnson get open for the game-clincher.
The Saints return to action Tuesday after winning five straight road games (Collegiate, Woodberry, FUMA, Colonial Heights, STAB).
Woodberry Forest is the opponent, who the Saints beat on Martin's shot six days ago.
