6-8 forward becomes fifth D-I basketball commit in six years.
AMEER BENNETT'S SENIOR HIGHLIGHTS

6-8 forward Ameer Bennett '17 has made his college choice, committing to Delaware State of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Wednesday, April 19.

Bennett had heavy interest and/or offers from several other schools, including Maine, Mount Olive, Tusculum, Richard Bland, Randolph-Macon and Hampden-Sydney. The long and rangy forward averaged 12 points, nine rebounds and a block per game for the Saints this past season, and has loads of potential going forward.

"It is special to earn a Division I scholarship, and Ameer has worked extremely hard to make this possible," basketball coach Hamill Jones '00 said. "He has improved every year, and he is only going to get better.  Ameer has great touch with both hands, he shoots well from outside, and he is a strong rebounder.  These skills on the court impressed and excited the Delaware State coaching staff right away.

"They also realized pretty quickly that Ameer is a fantastic person and strong student who will be a great representative of their university and program just like he has been here at St. Christopher's."

Bennett held three Division I offers before the season from Longwood, Bryant and VMI, but wanted to be patient in his search. Those offers were taken by other players as Bennett considered his options, but he's happy the process is over and ended in a full-ride.

Said Bennett, "I've been patient and now I'm just extremely blessed and thankful that my time has come."

Bennett joins Alexander Petrie '17 (Lafayette), Nick Sherod '16 (Richmond), Rodney Williams '13 (Drexel) and Jermaine Johnson '12 (Canisius) as Division I signees from the past six seasons of Saints basketball.
