As a brilliant "Renaissance Man," Boyd held three master’s degrees and chaired the mathematics department for 27 years, though his teaching spanned math, physics and English. Affectionately known as "The Bear," he coached football, advised the Honor Council, and lived out his belief that teaching is the finest of professions. For generations of Saints, he was much more than an educator; he was a model of warm optimism, profound integrity, and never-ending curiosity who taught young men to be individuals of true character. His indelible 50-year legacy on campus is honored through two major endowments—the Class of 1954 Scholarship and the Class of 1988 Chair of Distinguished Teaching—ensuring that his infectious passion for community and learning will inspire St. Christopher’s for generations to come.
