Bedell '15 picks Furman

Faceoff specialist will join Widhelm '15 at South Carolina school.
Wilson Bedell '15 committed to Furman to continue his lacrosse career.

Bedell chose the Paladins after considering Drexel, Jacksonville and Providence.

One reason was to play for coach Richie Meade, who led the USA team earlier this summer in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships.

"You don't really have the opportunity to play for a Team USA coach very often," Bedell said. "They have the coaching staff and what it takes. They are definitely going in the right direction."

Furman had its inaugural season in 2014 playing in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and received an early commitment from defender Parker Widhelm '15, also a St. Chris star and one of Bedell's best buddies.

"I definitely wanted to keep playing with him," Bedell said. "Hopefully the 2014 class and our class in 2015 will continue to move the program in the right direction."

Bedell's versatility was a big key in his recruitment. He won 66 percent of his faceoffs, and also led the Saints in groundballs with 117.

He could be in a faceoff in one game, a defensive middie in another, and could even be a long-stick middie.

"It feels awesome. I was pretty stressed out [about the recruiting process]," Bedell said. "I was waiting to see if I could get any more looks. But I'm super excited to go to Furman."

Bedell joins Myles Brown (Notre Dame, soccer), Garrett Taylor (Michigan, football) and Fleet Wallace (Cornell, lacrosse) and the aforementioned Widhelm from the class of 2015 to make commitments.
