Saints Roar Back Against Trinity

by Edison Pellumbi '25
Coming off back-to-back losses against Benedictine and STAB, the varsity basketball team needed to bounce back when they visited Trinity on the road.  After some back and forth in the second half, they managed to pull away with a 65-53 win, moving to 19-6 on the year and 5-2 in the league.

Early in the first, triples from Brandon Jennings '24 and Stuart Cosby '25, as well as another bucket from Darius Gray '26 gave the Saints an early 8-0 lead just under 90 seconds in.  Trinity managed to pull back into it, and at the half, the Saints held just a 29-28 lead.

Coming out in the second half, Trinity was in control on their home floor.  The Saints trailed for nearly the whole third quarter, with Trinity stretching their lead as far as eleven points.  In the 4th, Trinity continued to keep the Saints at a distance.  With under 6 minutes left in the game, they led 51-43.  This prompted a massive Saints run as they outscored Trinity 22-2 for the rest of the night.  The barrage was headlined by an Elijah Brandon '26 three to make it 52-51 StC, and the exclamation point was a Brandon Jennings transition dunk to stretch the lead to 63-53.

The Saints' next action is on Saturday, February 10 against Virginia Episcopal.
