Varsity Basketball Outlasts James Madison

by Edison Pellumbi '25
Coming off a Friday night win at Norfolk Academy, the Saints welcomed James Madison to Scott Gym the next day.  The varsity basketball team ended up taking a 62-53 win, moving its record to 5-1.

Early in the game, the Saints jumped out to a 12-3 lead and forced a James Madison timeout.  Coming out of the timeout, the Warhawks pulled closer and refused to let the Saints pull away, which turned out to be the theme of the night.  The Saints came close to extending their lead into the double digits numerous times, but every time the Warhawks managed to pull back within a few points.  Another theme of the night was a dominant performance from Darius Gray '26.  He controlled the offensive glass all night, leading to numerous extended possessions for the Saints.

In the 4th quarter, the game was level at 44 with just over six minutes left.  From there, they went on a 12-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Stuart Cosby '25 and Brandon Jennings '24 to gain a large lead they never gave back.  Their next action is on Friday, December 22 against Glenelg Country Day in the St. John's Classic in Washington, DC.
