Varsity Basketball Dominates Home Opener

by Edison Pellumbi '25
Coming off a victory in the consolation bracket of the Sleepy Thompson Tournament, the Saints welcomed St. Michael the Archangel to Scott Gym for their first home game of the year.  They won their third straight, taking an 82-63 victory and moving their record to 3-1 on the year.

During the first quarter, Sonny Bridges '25 led the way for the Saints, with 11 early points.  During the opening quarter, the Saints were able to stretch their lead into the double digits but were never really able to pull away. They got their lead up to nineteen in the second quarter, but the Warriors cut it down to nine with just over a minute left in the half.  However, the Saints closed out the half on a quick 7-0 run, capped by a Brandon Jennings '24 three at the buzzer, giving them a 43-26 lead at the break.

As the teams came out for the second half, the Saints got out to a blazing start.  They continued their run from the end of the second, stretching their lead out to 55-26 before they allowed another point.  St. Michael brought the score slightly closer, but it still ended as a dominating 19-point win for StC. Their next matchup is on Saturday, December 9, when they welcome James Madison to Scott Gym.
