After a massive roster turnover this summer, the varsity soccer team came in with a largely different look after losing many talented seniors, but they quickly put all doubts to rest as they defeated a very talented Bishop O'Connell 3-1 to open their season.
The first 30 minutes were goalless, although the Saints did create some good chances. However, that would soon change. In the 32nd minute, Jack Bleecher '25 converted a penalty giving the Saints a 1-0 lead. Later in the game, he would add two more, giving himself a hat trick to open the season. The Saints only conceded once, giving them a 3-1 victory, the same score as when O'Connell visited them in the quarterfinals of the VISAA tournament last fall.
The Saints' next action is on September 5 when they visit Christchurch.
