The varsity soccer team had a dominate performance going 3-0 at the Menno Classic this past weekend. The Menno Classic is a soccer invitational hosted by Eastern Mennonite HS with 8 participating teams.
The team opened with an impressive victory in the quarterfinals over Atlantic Shores 9-0 with 4 goals from Gerrett Broussard ’23, 2 goals from Wes Wise ’23, and solo goals from Nate Broughton ’22, Ian Cox ’23, and Manoli Loupassi ’23.
In the semifinals they faced St. Anne’s-Belfield and produced similar results with a 4-0 victory with solo goals from Taylor McDermott ’22, Jack Bleecher ’24, Wise, and Cox.
Finally, in the finals, the Saints took down St. John Paul the Great 5-0 with a solo goal from Grayson DiCosmo ’24 and Broussard, and a hat trick from Wise.
Goalie Rex Alphen ’23 had a perfect tourney, totaling 11 saves and earning Tournament Co-MVP. Broussard, McDermott, and Wise were also selected for the Menno Classic All-Tournament Team.
Saints look to continue their success against the undefeated Collegiate Cougars Tuesday, September 21 at 4:30 pm.
