StC’s Director of Health Services Receives Inaugural School Award

Dr. Ann Vanichkachorn named as the A.J. Bolling Chair Of Health and Wellness.

Ann Vanichkachorn was tapped as the inaugural A. J. Bolling Chair of Health and Wellness. The former OB-GYN, hired in 2013, oversees health and wellness initiatives for all StC students, faculty and staff.

Her early years were devoted to school policy, reviewing and developing best practices and standards of care. She converted all record-keeping from paper to online and then dove into health curriculums and programs devoted to topics such as sleep, vaping and mindfulness. Her role and responsibilities have grown through the years, most recently teaching AP Psychology and developing curriculum for Life Skills, a new junior class requirement.

Communications Director Sharon Dion said she’s always known we were fortunate to have Dr. Van, but the pandemic took that gratitude to a new level. “From the very early days, Ann was calm, steady and kept the entire administrative team informed to the ever-changing medical guidance that was flying at us,” Dion said. “Her medical knowledge was critical in making many decisions, especially in the early days as COVID was entering the United States. She was able to guide us on how to react — and not over- or underreact. What's more, she personally has cared for many members of our faculty and staff who were in need of counsel, guidance or even a home-cooked meal.”

Vanichkachorn graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed her residency at Pennsylvania Hospital. She declined to comment on her recent honor, but in an interview with students years ago, she said, “Since I’ve had memory, I’ve wanted to fix things. … I always knew I wanted to take care of people.”

The chair honors Jack Bolling, who dedicated his career to developing leadership in boys. He served St. Christopher's in numerous positions as an administrator, teacher, coach, trainer, mentor and friend.
