Preparing Upper School Boys for the Job Market

Life Skills teaches the dos (and dont’s) of interviewing for a job.

Our boys won’t be in school forever. Before they know it, they’ll be applying for internships, sending out resumes and preparing for job interviews.

In Life Skills, a new Upper School requirement, members of the administrative team taught juniors about how to prepare for and present themselves in a job interview. Headmaster Mason Lecky and Assistant Head of School Sarah Mansfield joined Director of Communications Sharon Dion to talk about best practices when preparing to step into the professional world.

Boys learned the importance of researching a job or company, showing enthusiasm, anticipating questions, thinking about their "personal brand" and being aware of how they're using social media.

Students observed Lecky as a job candidate in two simulated interviews, one professional and one not-so-much. At the end of the lesson, the boys broke into groups of two, practiced what they’d learned and compared their interview responses.
