StC Middle Schooler Makes the National Optimist Dinghy Association Team

Bo Angus '25 continues to make waves in the sailing world.

Bo Angus '25 has been sailing most of his life. He was introduced to the sport at age 5 and got his start on the junior team at the Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville, Virginia. Recently, Angus made the U.S. Optimist Dinghy Association team.

A love for the open water has sustained him throughout his career. “When I first started, I thought it was a lot of fun, just being on the water with the wind in my face,” said Angus. He remembers one exhilarating race in Pensacola, Florida where the winds reached 25 mph. The sailors were forced to head back to shore, but Angus remembers the event vividly and fondly. “When we were going back in, we were able to surf the waves and go really fast. It was just a lot of fun.”

In July 2019, Angus came in first in his age group at the USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festival in Lewes, Delaware and hopes one day to go for gold in the Olympics. He credits his success to persistence. He says, “It’s going to get tough, so the key is to not give up.”
