StC Juniors visit LS boys to discuss the value of mental well-being

This morning, three StC juniors visited the Lower School Chapel to share their experiences with anxiety and to talk about the importance of mental well-being. As part of our upcoming day of activities on this year’s World Mental Health Day, Pete Bell ‘21, Cooper Stovall ‘21 and Christian Johnson ‘21 encouraged the younger boys to feel comfortable with asking for help and to know that they aren’t alone in feeling anxious or stressed.

“I think it’s very important to help foster this mindset when they’re young, so they can be prepared for high school,” said Stovall.

The juniors believe paying attention to mental health at a young age has clear advantages and can help prepare boys for the challenges of growing up. “Hopefully they’ll just know that’s okay to have a mental health issue and they’ll feel comfortable talking about it with their friends or parents and teachers,” said Johnson. “I know a lot of people who could have been helped by a program like this had they been educated about mental health issues at a younger age.”
