World-renowned composer Mason Bates '95 visits StC

Bates' piece "Children of Adam: Songs of Creation for Chorus and Orchestra" was premiered by the Richmond Symphony on Saturday, May 12 at the Carpenter Theatre.
On Wednesday, May 9, Mason Bates ‘95 spoke in Upper School chapel. Mason, who is often hailed as the most performed composer of his generation, was commissioned by the Richmond Symphony to compose a piece to celebrate its 60th anniversary. “Children of Adam: Songs of Creation for Chorus and Orchestra” premiered on Saturday, May 12 at 8 p.m. at the Carpenter Theatre in Richmond.

Mason's brother Robley '94, a former U.S. Marine and an entrepreneur, spoke in Upper School chapel earlier this spring. His mother Louise is a former Lower School faculty member.

We are grateful to Mason, to his family, and to Mr. David Fisk of the Richmond Symphony for being on campus with us!
