Varsity Lacrosse Decimates Benedictine

By Miller Farley '18
On Tuesday, the Saints traveled to Goochland to rival boys school Benedictine College Prep, and put on a clinic of absolute domination. April 17th was a day to remember for the lacrosse team, as the 15 to zero win marks their largest margin of victory this year, as well as their first shutout.

The dismantling of the Cadets began right as the game did, as the Saints put up six goals in each of the first two quarters before taking their foot off the gas. A staggering twelve Saints scored, in a season when production has generally fallen on the shoulders of the top playmakers like Luke Valentine '19, who notched a six-goal game earlier this year, and the Richmond commit Hartley Jordan '19. This game was different, however, as no one scored more than two goals, and the wealth was shared across the board for the Saints. The youth starred for St. Chris, as Will Tazewell ’20 recorded an incredible five assists, and his fellow sophomore, David Wallace, produced three.

The Saints were elated as they stepped off the bus after the game, and Michael Chapman, senior captain and goalkeeper, praised his defense for “getting takeaways when [they] needed to” and the offense for “getting the job done and running through the sets.”

His goalkeeping partner, Walker Wallace ’20, who played for the second half and saved the Cadets' only shot on goal, mentioned the difficult “battle at the face-off X,” as the starting face-off man for STC, Jeffrey Moore '20, has been sidelined the past few games. Regardless, four different players won face-offs for the Saints, and the X will be a key focus for the Saints in practice leading up to their huge tilt at St. Anne’s-Belfield on Friday.

The Saints move to 6-4 on the season with seven games until the beginning of the state tournament, and a win against STAB could be a huge boost for STC going into the final stretch.
