Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney speaks in Upper School chapel

Stoney spoke about his vision for Richmond and took questions from the boys.
Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney spoke in Upper School chapel on Thursday, April 12. Stoney, who visited our campus back in January for an event held in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. day, spoke to the students and faculty about his vision for Richmond before taking questions from students.

One of the initiatives Mayor Stoney highlighted is increasing funding to after-school programs. "80 percent of a child's time is spent outside of the classroom....what do we do with the children after the bell rings?" he said. "In my current budget proposal, I've recommended roughly $1 million towards expanding high-quality out-of-school time here in the city working with organizations like the YMCA, YWCA, Boys and Girls Club...to create a network of quality academic enrichment after the bell," he continued.

Thank you, Mayor Stoney, for returning to St. Christopher's, and we look forward to partnering with you in the months and years to come.
