St. Chris Defense Shines in Impressive Win

by Miller Farley '18
The Thursday before Good Friday, St. Christopher's Varsity Lacrosse team welcomed the Durham Academy Cavaliers from North Carolina in the sixth game of the season for the Saints.

STC took home an 8-2 victory with some very patient and efficient defending. Captain RJ Wilkinson '18 led the way from the back by keeping his defenders organized and providing an imposing body that the Cavaliers' attackers couldn't break down. Burke Widhelm '18 and George Hodgson '20 locked up Durham Academy's talented attackers, Tyler Carpenter and Shaffer Woody, who are committed to Duke and Syracuse, respectively.

The St. Chris defense endured long possessions from the Cavaliers, while staying disciplined on their positioning and waiting for the best moment to check and win the ball back. Besides the Saints' exceptional long pole play, five different Saints scored, with Luke Valentine '19 continuing his stellar season with another hat trick.

The past two games had been displays of electric offense from St. Chris, and while their goal scoring potency was still very apparent, it was the unbreakable defense that was the story in this win.
