Bishop Goff visits StC

The Rt. Rev. Susan Goff, Bishop Suffragan of Virginia, visited with boys from all three divisions on Ash Wednesday.
Bishop Susan Goff's visit to St. Christopher's on Ash Wednesday began in Upper School chapel where she preached and presided over the imposition of ashes. In her homily, Bishop Goff spoke about how this year, Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day fell on the same day.

"Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day coming together on the same day reminds us that we are called to love. Because God loves us, so we must love other people. As soon as we enter into a relationship with God, we get relationships with other people. That's the deal for us as Christians...we get both," she preached.

Bishop Goff and Upper School chaplain Whitney Edwards imposed ashes on the foreheads of students and faculty, saying  "remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" as they marked the sign of the cross on each person's forehead.

Later in the afternoon Bishop Goff preached in Lower School chapel, using a Valentine's Day card from God to help the boys connect the meanings of the two holidays.

Thank you, Bishop Goff, for being with us, and we look forward to your next visit to St. Christopher's.
