Royal '19 leaps to #2 US Ranking

Rice '18 breaks own school record in pole vault.
Track standout Frank Royal '19 is certainly on the national radar now.

The soft-spoken junior ripped off a 24-2.25 long jump at the StC Track Invitational, the second best jump by a high schooler in the United States this season.

"I had high hopes for this meet," Royal said to Milestat.com. "I initailly jumped 23-9, so I was already pumped up on that.

"It's just a great competition. I'm more confident in myself and I look forward to the future. I've been getting consistenly better, but this was definitely my biggest leap in terms of personal records."

The Saints have been their normal selves so far this season, going 11-1 in meets head-to-head, their only loss by a point to Lee-Davis Friday, Jan. 19.

Virginia Tech commit Harrison Rice '18 made national news as well in the most recent meet, pole vaulting 16-1 to break a personal record and put himself among the best in the nation.

The Saints had five other event winners in the meet: Ian Smith (1000, 2:41.58), Elby Omohundro '19 (55 hurdles, 8.12; long jump, 20-10; triple jump, 45-1/2) and Christian Sherod '18 (high jump, 6-2).
