New Saints Emerge in Opening Weekend

By Jack Franko '18
The wrestling team may have found some new talent to fill the holes in its lineup this weekend at the Blue Devil Invitational and at their quad meet at St. Paul's in Baltimore.

Possibly the biggest hole has been filled at by senior Ralph Levy, who returns to the mat after taking a two-year break, now in the heavyweight division. Levy, who started at center for the football team this fall, went 3-0 with 2 wins by pin, and impressed with his tenacity and physicality.

Ralph's younger brother Morey took fourth at the Blue Devil Invitational at Fork Union and looks to be one of the strongest wrestlers on the JV squad so far this year. David Smith '20 and Jake Keeling '21 won the tournament in the 138 pound and 113 pound weight classes, respectively, and will be very valuable to the team moving forward.

Sophomore Jeff Moore is still recovering from a recent knee surgery, meaning that the team will have to figure out how to handle the currently vacant 195-pound weight class. Veteran wrestler William Tappen '18 could potentially fill in for Moore, but Tappen will need time to cut weight and might not be available until later in the season.

Jens Ames '18, Loudon Hurt '20, Kevin-Michael Schork '21, and Connor Alexander '19 will compete at the prestigious Ironman Tournament at Walsh Jesuit (OH) this upcoming weekend.

Most of the team was set to wrestle in the Richmond Invitational Tournament until it was cancelled due to inclement weather.
