Football Season Ends in State Semis

By Jack Franko '18
The varsity football team fell to Collegiate 21-7 in the VISAA semifinals on Saturday. Jens Ames '18 opened up scoring in second quarter when he broke free for a 48 yard touchdown run. T Brewer tied the game up when he found Ayinde Budd in the end zone towards the end of the second quarter. Brewer and Budd connected for another touchdown pass in the third quarter, and Brewer sealed the game with a 29 yard strike to Trey Boll.

Collegiate running back Joe White dominated the game with 30 rushes for 182 yards. Ames did his best to keep up with White, rushing for 120 yards on 20 carries. Both teams struggled greatly in the passing game. Brewer went 8 for 22 with 74 yards and an interception. Pat Routsis '19 had the worst game of his young career, going 6 for 23 with 39 yards and 6 interceptions.

Sophomore linebacker Jeff Moore led the Saints (7-3) with 9 tackles and defensive end William Tappen '18 added 7 more for a defense that was put on its heels for most of the second half.

Collegiate (8-2) will advance to face top-seeded Flint Hill (10-0) on the road in the state championship game after Flint Hill's 35-21 win over Benedictine in the other semifinal game.
