Football Stifles Ireton Offense for Easy Win

By Jack Franko '18
The varsity football team beat Bishop Ireton 37-0 on the road on Saturday at Ireton's homecoming game. Senior wide receiver Thomas Caravati got the Saints off to a hot start with two touchdowns in the first quarter. Will Tazewell '20, Jens Ames '18, and Will Beck '19 all added touchdowns of their own to put the Saints up by 35. Cornerback Logan Hingst '18 capped the game with a safety by blocking an Ireton punt out of the back of the endzone.

Quarterback Pat Routsis '19 had a strong game, going 16-26 for 200 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. Ames led the team in both rushing and receiving with 72 yards on the ground and 48 through the air. Will Hayes '19 caught 4 passes for 44 yards.

It was an outstanding day for the St. Chris defense, as they held Ireton's offense to a net of -6 yards on the day. The Saints also forced and recovered 2 fumbles and Hayden Forrest '20 intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter. Junior Jackson Turley had perhaps the best game of his career with 3 tackles for a loss and a sack.

The Saints improve to 6-2 on the season and have a bye week before facing rival Collegiate at home on Saturday, November 4th. A win against the Cougars would solidify a playoff spot for the Saints, who narrowly missed the playoffs after last year's 30-22 loss at Collegiate.
