Varsity Football Takes Down Norfolk Academy

The varsity football team defeated Norfolk Academy 28-7 on Saturday. The Saints took a 7-0 halftime lead after Will Hayes '19 scored on a 51-yard pass from quarterback Pat Routsis '19. Hayes scored again in the third quarter, this time from 9 yards out, and Jens Ames '18 punched in a 2-yard run to expand the lead to 21.

Norfolk was finally able to put together a successful drive in the fourth quarter, scoring on an 8-yard pass from Chris Randolph to Cross Birdsong. Hartley Jordan '19 put the game away with a 4-yard touchdown run.

Routsis finsihed the game 10-16 for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Saints totaled 192 yards on the ground, using Ames, Jordan, and Hayden Forrest '20, who led the team with 89 yards. Ames finished with 45 yards on 7 carries, and Jordan totaled 52 yards on 8 carries. Hayes had another strong game filling in for the injured Justin Jasper '18, and finished with 4 receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Saints were lead once again by linebackers Daymone Fleming '19 and Charlie Boggs '19. Boggs had 9 tackles, while Fleming had 8, including 2 tackles for a loss. Senior pass rusher William Tappen was all over Norfolk's backfield all day, ending the game with 4 tackles for a loss and 3 sacks.
