Bo Angus '25 excels as a sailor

Fifth grader placed first in eleven and second in two regattas over the summer
Bo Angus has been around the water and on a boat since he was born. His father introduced him to sailing at the age of five when he first started sail camp at Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville, Virginia. Bo has grown into the program over the past several years, this year joining the yacht club's Optimist Race Team. The Optimist is a small, single-handed dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15. Bo, now ten, is the youngest member of the team.

During the summer of 2016, after third grade, Bo competed in eight regattas along the Chesapeake Bay, placing fourth overall for his fleet in the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association's (CBYRA) High Point Series. For his achievements, he was recognized in May of 2017 at Annapolis Yacht Club.

Fast forward to the end of the his fourth grade year and Bo starts sailing four days after school lets out.  He has joined the race team with Fishing Bay Yacht Club, coached by Tomas Dietrich.  Tomas is a professional coach and sailor from Rosario, Argentina, who is currently campaigning for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.  The race team had an amazing summer, competing in 14 regattas in the High Point Series in the CBYRA.  The sailors were either at practice or traveling to regattas, six out of seven days every week until the end of the season on August 14, 2017.

If they were not practicing in Deltaville, Virginia, they were practicing at different yacht clubs along the Chesapeake Bay.  One of Bo's biggest achievements this summer is qualifying for the United States Optimist Dinghy Association (USODA) 2018 Team Trials at the National Championship regatta, which was held at Big Blue Sailing Academy at Old Dominion University Sailing Center from July 31-August 3, 2017.  The team trials will be held at Key Biscayne Yacht Club in Miami, Florida in April 2018.  There were over three hundred skippers that competed at this regatta from all over the US.  Fishing Bay Yacht Club had eight out of ten sailors qualify, which is an amazing accomplishment for any yacht club or race team.

Bo finished the season placing first in his fleet in the High Point Series with CBYRA, racing in 14 regattas, placing first in eleven regattas and second in two regattas.  He's had an amazing summer, meeting new people, building new relationships, and doing what he loves most, sailing.  He will continue to sail and compete throughout the year.

This morning, Bo left with his cousin--a student from Collegiate School who is also a distinguished sailor--for the Atlantic Coast Championship at Camp Sea Gull & Camp Seafarer in Arapahoe, North Carolina.

Good luck Bo! The entire St. Christopher's community is pulling for you!
