The outdoor track and field team pulled off the state double, winning the VISAA title to go along with the indoor crown won in February.

The Saints truly proved track is a team sport. Last week in the Prep League meet, the team's two throwers were not available. The loss in potential points in the shot put and discus hurt as the Saints finished runner-up.

One thrower, D.T. Badley '17, was able to return for Saturday. He finished third in the shot put and fifth in discus to help the Saints down Prep League champ FUMA by 4.6 points.

StC scored in all 17 events and once again made a huge dent in the field events, led by field-event MVP Elby Omohundro '19. He wrapped up the triple jump title on his final jump, going 43-11 1/4. Omohundro also took second in the long jump (22-3 1/2) - Frank Royal '19 was third (22-2) - and fourth in the high jump (6-2) right behind teammate Christian Sherod '18 (6-2).

The Saints went 1-2 in the pole vault behind champ Harrison Rice '18 (14-6) and runner-up Allan Pedin '17 (13-6), as StC flexed its muscle in the field.

But the events on the track weren't too shabby, either. Several performers came up huge.

Start with Ian Smith '20, the 800-meter champ in 1:59.26. He also helped the 4x800 (Hank Valentine '20, Neal Dhar '20, Kannon Noble '17) relay to a second-place finish.

Wyatt Campbell '19 completed the incredible double of running the 1600 and 3200 on a hot day, finishing third in each. Dhar was sixth in the 3200.

It doesn't seem huge, but Royal's fifth- and sixth-place finishes in the 200 and 100, respectively, were vital, as well as his anchor leg on the 4x100 team (C Jenkins '17, Sherod '18, Meyann Avele-Eya '20) that placed third out of Lane 8.

Monty Hannaford '18 came up big in the 400 (51.72, 4th) and anchored the 4x400 team (Pedin, Noble, Smith) to third place.

This group of young men exceeded expectations indoors and outdoors, and have many key returners in the years to come.
