Baseball falls in VISAA semis

Five-run fourth inning costs StC.
The varsity baseball team fell to Miller School 6-3 Friday, May 20 in the semifinals of the VISAA tournament.

A five-run fourth inning cost the Saints dearly, as the Mavericks took advantage of a few StC miscues.

The Saints rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bradley Garner '23 singled, then later scored on a Miller error. Then Carter Schmitt '22 blasted an RBI double for the final margin.

The Saints had defeated the talented Mavericks twice this season, 3-1 and 3-2, and played them to a standstill in aggregate run totals (9-9), ironically.

Overall, this Saints team achieved tremendously without two of their top pitchers all season in Cam Nuckols '22 (VCU) and Kyle Haines '22 (RMC), with Sterling Austin '22 (HSC) handling ace duties and sophomore Jim Douthat '24 putting up a great varsity debut. Jacob Carnley '22 was essential in relief and closing duties on the mound, and at shortstop.

This team loses lots of seniors and leadership, but has a ton of young players looking to continue the strong tradition.
