Football thwarts Warriors

Smith-Tidwell connection good for winning score.
The varsity football team defeated St. Michael the Archangel 20-14 Friday, October 9.

Down 14-13 with less than six minutes remaining in the contest, QB Toney Smith '28 hit JJ Tidwell '27 on a post route for a 58-yard score that would hold up for the final margin.

"We were talking about [throwing the post to JJ] all game," Smith said afterward.

The defense took over from there as time ran out on the Warriors final drive. Bowan Ireland '27 was everywhere with 14 tackles, 3 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss. He also forced and recovered a fumble.

Kicker William Sterling '27 broke his own school record with a 49-yard field goal giving the Saints a 13-6 lead. It was his second made FG of the contest.

Aiden White '27 ran for 93 yards and a score on 17 carries. Hugh Mack '27 caught four passes for 42 yards.

After a long homestand the Saints will hit the road Saturday, October 17 visiting Woodberry Forest at 2 pm.
